Smallest dreams

* smallest dreams *
These smallest dreams and hopes
Sheltered in my soul
Kept warm by beating heart
Pushed gently forward by thoughts
Of other days and other things
Which I might seek to do

Dreams as fragile as blackbird eggs
Not heavily wrought or crude
Of having sufficient to eat
A comfortable chair
Cosy abode
The ability to if I wish
Purchase a luxury or two
A new fresh purchased book
Linen white and virgin pure
A cup of coffee in a cafe
As world slips

These dreams of mine are small
I tread around them soft
I fear the world in which I live
May treat such dreams rough
My money saved evaporate
A war break out and crush
Every little dream I have
Of living cosy warm and safe.
