As Orwell saw

* as Orwell saw *
I saw the most recent revolution on tv
The people against the State
Trying to learn how to use the weapons of war
Before it is too late
Self consciously forming ranks
Dressed in clothes of the street
Fumbling comically with the bigger weapons
George Orwell remembered such well
The Catalonians of whom he wrote
Best intentions in their hearts
And the worse for all their freedoms
An anarchy of leadership
For the people united need no orders
People united need no plan
They think to stand together will be enough
To show their willingness to die
Will win the battlefield
And the soldiers of the State
Forced or paid to fight and bleed
Know upon the battlefield
Might is the only right you need
Logistics will defeat good intentions
And disorganised patriots die as easily
As men who fight for gold
These thoughts I think as I watch
Another people resisting oppression
Seeking justice they rise up
And I hope they find the State frail
A State incompetent and bankrupt
Else all the graveyards in their cities freed
Soon be filled with martyrs free.
