Smile

*** passing smile ***
Your smile is not full
A ripple cross a slow moving river
No great turbulence or waterfall
No flooding outburst of humour
No sudden teeth baring bray of laughter
Your smile rises enticingly
An inquiring mischievous proposition
Offering warmth and experience

A smile of sensuality
Which states no need to rush
Get to know me
Make me laugh
As you can see these lips would laugh well
Laugh deeply freely and intelligently
And would kiss with frank abandon

Rustic untamed loving
Lies behind this smile
In the mature fullness of this body
Brush my hair back
Place warm skating lips to my throat
Hear a purr escape these lips

These lips which lightly question
If intentions are honourable
Intentions passionate and hard
If romance of looks and words
Can be fully delivered upon
All this your smile fleeting asks
Coy and appealing
Sitting as demurely
As sexual nymph may sit
Upon a train to work
Trading smiles with a stranger
Who is drowning in your full deep eyes.

Night fears

+ night fears +
Sharp orange peaks
Catch death of the evening
Sun on mountains impaled
Sound of last birds
Turning to roost
Night panther stalking
Preying on light
The shadows grow darker
Dusk is a brief struggle
As last rays of Sun mugged
By Night grim and overpowering
This is now time
For stars veiled to shine bright
Moon rise high for lovers
Is the grave robbing hours
Desperate hours long
For forsaken and lonely
The old and forgotten
Counting every moment
Fearing each tortured second
From twilight to dawn
As no rest will come.

Wonder

+*** wondering ***+

You often wonder
As wonderers often do
If the wonders you wonder
Are wonders unique to you
Is there a world of wonderers
Wondering as you do
Or is it a world of wonder
Full of wonderous things
On which you only wonder
A wonderer uniquely alone
As no other wonderers
Wonder as you do
See not wonder all about
Do not wonder true
In this world of wonder
The only wondering done
Is by the wonderer you.

Writer's write

+ of writer's write +
Are the people reading as you sleep
Do your words infect and into supine dreams creep
Are your characters capturing memories alive
Do your stories lift morale as through life they strive.

Every word you load and drop
Concepts you develop and headline crop
Are there people reading your tales
As you sleep and dream of whales

From Byron Bay to Port Fairy headland
Are your words written devouring the land
Sentences spun from tree to tree
Multiplying cross desert wide and free.

Did you think when first you wrote
In time people shall my words qoute
Lift an idea immortalised in ink
Stop and make others think

Did your story speak of loving joys
Or retell ancient political ploys
How did you hold the reader's gaze
Distract them from life's busy daily maze

A friend create of whom they wish to read
A friend in whom they can believe
From Harry Potter to Citizen Kane
All those heroes to the cowards vain

All the words in all the time
And those preserved in iambic rhyme
Shakespeare who knew our frailties clear
Could make us monsters and make us dear

All of us who write relate
To the each and every characters fate
For a tiny part of us made each
To ensure all stories are within reach.

Constant follower

+ constant follower +
An unhurried pace constant
Follows you as you race
Gathering to yourself
Temporal moments fleeting
Hearing Time's pounding nearer
While the pace of your follower
Never lags or speeds
Moves with total inevitability
Already knows your schedule
When what will happen will
Needs not rush to greet
Sets no other agenda than the meeting
Where mortality meets end
There Death shall be
No more a follower instead companion
And when seen be recognised
As clearly and completely
As your last breath.

the sunlight fight

+ the sunlight fight +
Scarlett banners of dawn
Forces of the Light
Invading this sky of night
Putting to sword darkness
Everywhere a column goes
Mobilisation of sunlight
Clouds are crested purple
Flicker through shades till find
Own true colour not reflected glow
Of dawn's warring shades
Night withdraws hurriedly
A retreat across whole sky
And Sun shines down victorious
Such hubris needs a fall
When dusk comes round again
And night triumphant rise.

Life's backing track

+ life's backing tracks +
The runner on the road
footsteps slap the tarmac
sweat atomised cross body
I-pod pumping sounds
to fill the aural senses
for at dawn all is too serene
still and quiet and unmotivating

Instead a playlist of favourites
soundtrack to life lived
performed in jogger's head
setting vibrations through skull
casting images of other times
where these sounds first encountered
now stored regenerate the feelings
as jogger pounds the pavement

Drawing breathes from deep in lungs
feeling every sinew and muscle
abruptly greatest muscle convulses
a fatal flaw carried from birth
a weakness never detected
for until now a weakness never known
seismic disturbance of life
jogger tries to gather fresh breath
music in ears so loud
cannot hear his own wheezing
only feels pain shooting through limbs

Sudden breathless emptiness
a wave of nausea and heat
black spots growing larger
entire vision blurred and shaken
collapses onto roadway
the Sun is coming up
all so still and serene
no one to see
as Ipod plays favourite songs
though no one is listening.

flood

-flood-
Silver rivulets spill
Over gutter of contentment
Such bliss is this
In loving flood
Landscape of my life
All country seen changed
Horizons broader than before
All air fragrant with hope
Made rich by this rain
Continual and unending
Glorious precipitation of love

Castaway

+ CASTAWAY +
Wash me with the waters
Of your passion raging
Raise me higher from my slumber
By your kisses alarming
Set tone of my life revitalised
By your resurrecting love

Drifter of no address
No country on my passport
Alone and alienated
Flotsam of the world

In your arms came to rest
Beached safely in your charms.

The whole damn thing

+ the whole damn thing +

Monday finds me
In a blended frame of mind
Memories of weekend receding
Conceding rest days left behind
Hours to pursue own needs
Whether in garden or
Sprawled in front of television
Now give authority over to
The office the pc and chair
Do corporate things similar
To a billion corporate others
Staring down a flickering screen
From a metric foot distance
Apparently being productive
5 days a week year in year out
Until my stint is over
And pass over to another
Barely a ripple across the corporate
Just a short disturbance around coffee machine
As our farewells say.

Summer Nights

+-- Summer nights --+
Those long Summer nights
Sun's heat released from road surface
Wind a warming arm cross shoulders
All the deeds and world seems possible
Head up and eyes open wide
Cruising across town fully alert
For a chance at something
At anything an opportunity
Blood surging through veins
As exciting as a first kiss
This warmth hanging on night air
Sets alight the hunger deep
Releases an eagerness enthusiastic
To be of this world
To taste all fruits rich and ripe
And how ripe the world seems
On a hot Summer's night.

To darkness turn

+ to darkness turn +
All dreams composed
In waking hours slip
Dreams of night reign
Proclaim mastery of mind
As reality does sink
With last beams of Sun
Here primitive superstitions
Tales told to wayward babes
Terrors of the night prevail.

The case for

+ the case for +
Light and tunnels
Breaking out

Red apostrophes of appeal
Upon pale sentence

Discordant whines in the night
Electrocution execution

Dawn fades to a new day
Fresh soil lands on a pine box.

A train trip

 + A Trip +

The trip in this morning
An unhurried pause
Stopping and starting
Waiting for signals
Hesitating at a station
Maybe the driver is just reading
And train slows as he turns page
Be more romantic than
The score of usual excuses
A flood damaged the wiring
All the trains are slow
Drivers are suffering micro-naps
An earlier train was defective
The timetable is badly set
Sun dazzle from the rails
Wild kangaroos blocking tracks
A super villain has stolen the electricity
Aliens reset polarity of the poles
Or meerkats have overthrown humanity
Instead I want an announcement
Loud and heavy with static
To crush all carriage conversation
The driver needs to finish reading bloody Harry Potter
Or the Twilight series
Not erudite readings Greek
No Oedipus or Olympian Gods
Instead a common man
Reading the most common books
Taking us to work
Feeding his non-literary literary addiction
At the same time.

Accent fetish

+ Accent Fetish +
When you speak
Your accent strokes me
A striptease of vowels and cosonants
An erotic libretto
Anything you speak
I am bewitched and befuddled
Stare as your lips create
Not just words of communication
Also images of another land
Reinforce figments of culture export
Lifted from television
Read about in books
The exotic of the different
Eroticism of your tongue.

Stilled

+ stilled +
Closing up
Sun moves on
My lips sealed
My tongue stilled
All words frozen
Heart in amber waits
For cracks to heal
Or splinter apart completely
To be of one form
Or move to chaotic change
I cannot voice my thoughts
Pain needles me
Makes riddles of my emotions
The car crash keeps unfolding
And find myself without the power
To even scream
In this episode of relationship
This death of heart and hope and love.

When kisses cease

@@ When kisses cease @@

Out in the woodlands
Between each tree's circular stand
The clearings so small
In which dappled light drips
Flowing around tree trunks
Surging past leaves
Escaping branches grasp
A sea of light flowing
Honeyed wash for growth
Walking and thinking
Sounds only heard
Of twigs under feet
Rustle of leaves
Bird calls hidden drift
Down from full canopy
In sylvan setting benign
Wondering if world
Beyond these trees exist
Questioning yourself
Of whom you are
Away from hard city
Released from the race
Upward mobility ambitious
Set now on hold
Breeze against face
Free caress of Nature
Reality found to be more
Than email and memo
Blackberry discarded
Greatest escape ever planned
Away from society
The bills taxes and fees
Breath in the air
Lungfuls of joy
Enslaved no longer
Released from cubicle cage
Unbound from the sticky wage
Free to be who you would
Freed and free to do good
Or nothing or do all
Away from city streets and noise
In the woodlands quiet
Where wildlife burrows
Discover time to release yourself
From all woes or heartfelt sorrow.

Lost

+ lost Summer +
Days of lost Summer
Stretched into years
Shiny young bodies
Worn out and worn down
Exiles all
From bountiful Summer
The days when we knew
Who we wanted to be
Where we would end up
The world we would make
Instead on the journey
Seems Summer's light was lost
All new summers were less
Sheen of our youth
Discoloured and flattened
All of our loving
Fires burning bright
Grew cold and so dead
Hopes suffered blight
Now we are looking
Seeking to find
Ways back to lost Summer
Left so far behind.

cost and things

+++ Cost and things +++
The dead don't dance
Dead don't sing
The dead just rot
That is their thing.

To be living and alive
To hear music pulse
Move and to jive
Is a living thing.

The forgotten don't walk
Forgotten are not present
Lost in gaps between
What you knew and know once upon a time.

The scars are bright
Livid aching and raised
Red marked irritability
Of slights unforgotten.

Words are just words
When narrative lost
Truth inconsequential
When we won't pay the cost.

Going to where

 O+  going to where  +O

Scarborough fair
Such a sweet air
Infects my head
Lines tripping on
Repeated and redone
Eternal loop continuous
Of market stalls and herbs
At end of a journey

For are you going
To the place in the tune
Mind worm so sweet
Gnawing away at my brain
Chewing up sense in my head
Tainting my dreams
Interrupting all thoughts
Who will be there

I see her in a long linen dress
Striding towards me
Hair falling long over shoulders
Light brown kissed with blonde
Smile broad and deep
Eyes reflecting joy
Of my arrival finally
At Scarborough Fair.

That Love unyielded

 + that love unyielded +

I do not talk of you
To those I know and meet
I dare not allow hot flames
within my heart to leap
beyond sealed hearth of my soul

My words never relate your words
In night long hours I never say
out loud the things I would
if moulded to your body
pouring vowels into your ear.

I avoid the constant checking
to see if you have rung or mailed
If a tweet has been twittered
or facebook wall updated
A hermit I make myself be.

When I go walking
Admiring Nature and its joys
I store the thousand impressions
Hoping one day to enrapture you
with the beauty of these days.

I think of you morning noon and night
have never sighted you forever
Hope burns bunsen burner low
keeping my heart and love warm
forcing circus fleas to drag my tethered soul.

+the after tears+

 + the after tears +
What tears these
What dreams
What sins
Lying in the thoughts
Hidden under smiles
The thoughts immoral
Siren sweet chorale
Luring naïve and foolish
To teeth of doom
Crocodile tears
Fabricated dreams
Addictive sins
To capture innocence
Pretend wisdom be gained
Some greater knowing obtained
When what the serpent offers
Only a dispelling of hope
Derisive erosion of self
A spoiled blackness rotting
Descent into total corruption
Those acidic tears of pity
Those degenerate dreams corroded
Those splintered sins embedded.

Rest A While

+ REST A WHILE +

Lay your head and rest a while
close your eyes from crying
lie here in the warm sun
and gather fresh strength
I shall watch the door
and guard the ways to your side
I shall hold the lines
as from this sadness you slide.

Lay your head and rest a while
so long it seems since you did smile
all the tears and heartache full
a flood of woe you've been through
waterlogged now with sorrow
it is time to dry you out
with warm embrace give life's heat
with my lips revive your heart.

Lay your head and rest a while
seems cruelly life has dealt you
every card another bane
and every night darker colder
I shall warm you with my thoughts
address your woe with a smile
draw the sadness with compress of laughter
for all eternity or just a while.

Lay your head and rest a while
this day we can let slide
there shall be a tomorrow brighter
from which good fortune shall ride
these days past will fade and fall
remembrance of them be as shadows
scraped from self by cheerful light
diminished in sight by heart happiness tight
until then I guard and watch
as you, my love, rest a while.
