Tales Past and Future

* tales past and future *
Mysteries deepen
Hopes are misshapen
Treasure remains hid away
The tales of past days
Curtsies and true ways
Fairy tales imbued by time
With wonder and truth
As if we keep saying often
History fades
With the remnants real we are left
Even our own past just past
Romanticised and made unreal
I don't recall the world
Of which they are speaking
The simpler cleaner place
When all life is easier
And the streets were layered with gold
Jobs for the picking
The cars nearly perfect
Houses and land inexpensive
And phones stayed where they were told
Now there's this new world
Seems like the old one
Wars are still bought and sold
Good men do things which worry them
Bad men get away with hell
We hope for our children
That the world we are building
Will be worth something when they are old
But whatever we do
However we make it
It will theirs to behold
The way that they view it
Reflect what they're knowing
Not all the luggage
Of the years we are towing
The chasm between us
The difference as if
We were on one tide
And they are rising on another
Searching the beaches
For the mysteries to unfold
And the treasures they know is lying
They hope to be holding
Now reached their time to be bold.
