*after the quakes*

*after the quakes*
What changes these
Distilled tempers frozen
Lazy fuming discontentment drifts
Nature has set against humanity
Places all quarrels in perspective
Darkness of hates set aside
As jungle animals before a fire
Band together and see
World has razed evidence of humanity
Our ordered termite mound towns
Public thoroughfares straights clogged
Mud and debris and bodies
The sea has come and acted
All those statistics of risk meaningless
Stating how often a disaster is expected
For the raw figures do not protect
Cannot shield the wicked or innocent
From the disaster's effects
For all our mastery of numbers
A few thousand dead
A potential nuclear meltdown
Indicates highest human hubris
We all may yet glow
Deepest fears be realised
As core temperatures grow hotter
And Nature patiently waits
To strike at our majestic misconceptions
Of how we rule unchallenged
Have subjugated this wild world completely .
