on Cows

*+* on Cows *+*
On cows I should write
Of Devonshire black patched and white
Or Herefords with ginger heads large
Brahmans pleasantly sub-continental
Swinging udders often full
To produce our dairy products daily
Requires a visit to cow shed mechanised
Where milk so white and rich the prize
Is channelled to waiting tanker
For our breakfast or tea
The white liquid on which we exist
A valuable protein drink we would miss
If all the cows were not there
Or chose one day to go on strike
To the world of milk deprive
No more cheese yoghurt or cream
If the herds should turn mean
Launch a cloven hoof revolution
Dispute with humanity evolution
Demand their rights as true bovine
Declare themselves as images divine
The Hindus already treat them so
The cows wonder why the rest so slow
Return their milk or pay the bill
Otherwise no more lactating cows will
This is what in future may occur
If we do not to demands demure
To acknowledge cow-ship rights
Lead to all kinds of fights
Thankfully cows are so sensible
No love of conduct reprehensible
Seek not to rule our world
Prefer see milk in cheese curd
And regularly need to seek relief
Of full udders else there be grief.
