ever free?

*ever free?*
Ever escaped down the rabbit hole
Which Lewis Carroll dug
The rabbit hole down which he cast
Sweet Alice and her precocious ways
Ever travelled along the path
Not oft chosen by easy sated majority
Perhaps it is a longer winding track
More treacherous to your chances of survival
Maybe in such adventures and dangers
Find your reasons to not extinguish life's flame
Is this the malady which governs those
Who returned from fighting cannot settle
Who see the world around them stale
Thirst still for excitement and rush
Of the world where all was not set
Where stability was measured by the moments or minutes
And life by hazards constantly beset
The nomad life or gypsy ways
The never know where day end will find you
Have you ever ventured so
Purse to light by half
And at evensong no welcoming light in sight
Freer than any bird of flight
Freer than the family man
Tied to house and childs and wife
Free from all between the heavens and the seas
Knowing if you should fall down a Lewishian rabbit hole
There would be none this side of there
In a chapel a mourning candle light
For your unencumbered soul's lone plight.
