Southern Winter Wind

* Southern Winter Wind *
These weird and wired days
Of grit and sunshine and chilly wind
Air pushed from Antarctic pits
To take edge from Winter's day
Leave keen edge on skin
Crush heat between clothed layers
To flay you with cat of nine tails
Of weather's justice arbitrary
All feel this sting who stand
In environment exposed
The winds Mawson and Scott knew
Onto our shores transposed
Shake the trees clear of leaves
Breath a chilling breath
Across every open space of water
Set the temperature down by 10 degrees
When blows onshore this wind
This curling whistling Antarctic breeze.
