News each day

** News each day**
My night is growing heavier
The day has plain worn me out
My steps grow slower and rise less
All my yeast has run out
These eyes of mine sees things dimly
And my heart beats so much more thinly
We shall not fail to not succeed
Is the carping chorus interlude
There is doom on every horizon
News carries only despair and hate
A pair of cute puppies cavorting
Does not address an hour of murder
An hour of senseless greed
An hour of the very worst things
On which our fears and paranoia feed
In every home the glowing box
Brings a world of doom within
The fortress walls of our thoughts
So easily breached and grown taut
We hear the misery and hell of others
Grow insensitive to their plight
And more anxious than is right
That we may in time feel same pain
And so we grow ever inward
A toenail curling back under skin
We become the broken people
Worn out by things we let in
By wars half a world away
By fear and panic and disorder
We feel our guilt for not helping
And feel despair that we should live
In such a world as the one
They present on the news each day.
