Radio

* RADIO *
Listening to music on the radio
Not ipod insularity
Sharing free with thousands of others
Beating to time on the steering wheel
Fast or slow to music beat
An escape from traffic jammed street
Another echo of a gentler long ago
See people mouthing words of the song
Finding beat and rhythm as drive along
This is the beauty and the splendour
Soundtrack of our lives never-ending

This music on the radio we don't choose
Dial across stations to find something loose
Something we can enjoy in this mood
An expression of our today mood
Dylan woefully banging on
GaGa re-interpreting Bowie's songbook
A little splash of Pop
A dash of Country Rock
Taylor Swift and her mid western Romeos
Some garage band lotharios
Singing loud over raucous guitar and drums
The music changes through the years
Feeling brought by music never does

Sharing the soundlist on my radio
As music rises to a crescendo
Advertising break shatters the serenity
Cut short with drastic brevity
As across the radio bands go searching
For a radio station not merchandising
Try and find another song
Keep me moving loud and strong
Outside my car stench of exhausts
Cacophony of engines and impatient
Inside my cab nearing nirvana
As Kurt Cobain sends a shiver
Talking the talk of young man's angst
Anthems for a generation
Lived too closely the music frank
All those other forgotten musicians we should thank
And of course Mr Marconi as well
For designing radio so swell
So as we are driving
Before we are even arriving
Share the music of this journey
With all others on this station.
