No escaping

** no escaping **
The old lion is tired now
Battles fought left scars deep
Past combats disturb sleep
No escaping the yesteryears
Roars and tears and fears
All your hopes rubbed down
A mere nub of what was is left
These tears spill forth from a hidden fount
A deep well long undisturbed
Walls are breaking all around
In sentiments long repressed fear to drown
All the present lies sit
Such inadequate squalid things
Been composed in dark cold places
Light of day melts them down
Feel no more can contribute
The laurels of past no more be won
These limbs are weak and eyes grown dull
Mind is disorganised and character hardened mean
So we find ourselves each day
Staring into the mirror wondering
What became of idealistic knight
Where did he so lose his way
An inch closer to the grave
A minute nearer to the blade.
