No giants left

** no giants left **
Those giants once were men
Did they ever know some doubt
Seems hewn from ancient earth
Given wisdom from gods above
Driven forward in fellowship and love
Did they ever hesitate
Consider another course
Believe themselves the knaves
In life's grand parade
Not champions tall and proud
Did they lose their way
Stumble to find their calling
To addiction fall prey
And there are so many
Or should we expect
A sterile perfect saint
A leader of industry
Without a single blemish
Who never knew a crooked feeling
Slept only with his wife
Not a tabloid troublemaker
Read more on page
Selling soul to sell newspapers
Possessor of a sex video
Google it and find
Every single infidelity
Every youthful indiscretion
Once such actions were your follys
Upon which wisdom might be built
Instead we now ask a higher standard of leadership
That they have never failed
Or were cunning enough to hide their disasters
Their adventures of youth tame
And their acquaintances saintly
Pious men who have never known regret
Vacuum packed morals never tested
Failures never having to be overcome
The leader who knows only one agenda
Allow all blame to fall on others
These are not the giants we once knew
Instead our world lead by pygmies
Standing on polls for height
Who take their directions from public opinion
Not by what is just or right
You wonder how our present day leaders
Might have resolved questions of the past
Where passing the buck was not an option
And effects of their decisions everlasting
Perhaps for we who now live
In a time shaped by those giants strengths
Time to give thanks our leaders
Were not chosen way back then.
