Hunting Overtures

** Hunting Overtures **
Wonder all the sounds conventional
Opera light in symphony intentional
Tracking an orchestra through thawing tundra
Picking off bass player first
In quick session heavy trombone players
And a harpist are brought down
The rest in panic become scurrying forward
To escape the hunter's gun
Is the annual cull of brass wood and wind
Else orchestras grow too large
As it is too often violinists escape
Meaning some turn feral to feed themselves
Abandon classical education to fiddle
Become buskers or folk music exponents
Flautists are difficult to bring down
Light of feet and lightly encumbered
A patience needs to be shown
They tend to pop up to give shrill peeps
Thrill of making sounds drives them so
Then a well placed shot can bring them down
Ignore those wandering distracting hands
Aim five inches above the mouth hole
Every hunter of the music movements
Tends to have a favoured instrumentalist
Upon whom they wish to bring sights to bear
Many seek a harpist as a trophy
Such a large kill looks great above any fireplace
Personally cannot see the challenge
Slow and cumbersome and without a shred of camouflage
Prefer the piccolos myself
Stealthy and fast and rarely sighted
To bring one down you need a movement
Of unusual diversity and range
And if you can bag several
Make a pleasant wall hanging.
