A lost ideal on the way to the till
The stinking rich get richer
The taxed poor get sicker
And no health system worthy
Of the word healthy exists
For the poor joe who just subsists
From this pay-packet to the next
World of wealth to him
A filling meal and warm house
A roof that is not leaking
Such simple things audience desire
As the trapeze swings higher and higher
And how they gasp and sigh
As beneath the big top
The show continues on
The rich get private trainers and thinner
Poor struggle to afford a fast food dinner
And in a car park far from the show
Brown paper bags and envelopes exchanged
Sooth the conscience of the law givers
With well placed bribes corrupting
All the legality disrupting
Of people in higher places playing
Games of personal need and greed
And we outside the tent braying
Bring these damned curs to heel.
