See the mistletoe and decorations going up
Christmas specials labelled on every second product
All is festive and full of commercial cheer
Bing Crosby singing White Christmas is everywhere
The gifts you must receive appear on shelves
Santa's grotto set up with leotard suited elves
Catalogues stuffed overflow mailbox
This Christmas theme as persistent as the pox
On television announcements of Christmas shows
A billion mentions of Rudolph's nose
Trying to line up holidays for the break
So much Christmas cheer they make
Can't they see the bloody date
It is not even July late
Seems Easter has just passed
Still ashes on forehead from mass
This period of pastiche cheer
Grows longer and more painful every year
When we are expected to open wallets wide
And invite their grubby greedy finders deep inside.
