Winning parentry

** Winning parentry **
To live life must you live the life yourself
Or can life be lived through
Those to whom you have given life
Store their achievements with your own
Weigh them only with their failures
As you in contentment glow
Unbound by those same covenants
You have placed upon them
The admonishments as a parent
Which become the fences in which they run
Their lives now set unless they can
Break out and find pastures fresh
And do you claim their escape
As victory for yourself
That in parenting so brilliantly
Instilled in them the confidence
To take or to reject
The immutable covenants you once laid down
Those fencelines you set
In which their life to play
And as all life is chance and risk
If beyond the bounds they falter
You can place the blame on them
For having thought they knew better than you
The perfect parenting situation
In every event you win.
