Trains delayed or cancelled
Standing atop tired platforms
Built in some great boom era
Than the prosperous one in which we now exist
When infrastructure meant things completed
Not political campaign promises disregarded

Identifiable by the hang dog look
The sadly beaten nervous stare
The terror at each announcement
That another train has been shunted
A powerline has come down
An incident at a station has train delayed
(To be heard as police investigating an assault)

Wary of all manner of things on seats
Chewing gum or ink or paint stains
From some noxious puerile vandals
With less imagination than a cardboard box
Sprayed an assortment of obscenities
Upon the walls windows and seats
Left as a reminder of where mommy failed
But the education system assisted their spelling
The common domestic commuter
Hardy and resourceful
As a Russian peasant
Often held down and enslaved
Yet if this sleeping giant ever stir
Commuters rise as one
Be a revolution bloody
Transport minister crucified at a rail crossing
The Premier tied to the tracks
Which lead to the train drivers lunchroom
Oh what uncomparable soaring joy then
To be a common dometic commuter
The fire of madness fully lit
Wide eyes caught in reflection
Of burning carriages and stations
Riots breaking out due to overcrowding
Miles of track pulled up
And in great heaps burned
As common domestic commuters
Dance around and around
No longer concerned by timetables
By getting to where they need to be
Instead naked and wild and free
Unhinged and unbound from trainlines
No long completely stationary
Ready to soar ever upward
