Chilled

Chilled

 * chilled *
When skin grows cold
Icy air surrounds
Every flaw and creak
In importance grows
Bones no longer meet
Skin fried by ice
Heartbeat stammers
On edge of Winter
Caught unawares
By sunshine pleasantness
Deception wrought
Get me to dress for warmth
Then scour blue from sky
Paint with seamless grey
Wind turn from cooling breeze
To chill penetrating invader
Remove world's warmth so easily
As if a switch flicked
From hints of Spring glorious
Revert to coarser Winter
Wind blades shear us
Steel wool down skin
Our veins run hot
Breath is illuminated
Painted gushes of steam
From within bodies warm
Even as exposed skin becomes
Gladwrap immobile film
Of chilled ice to touch.
