Thanking time

** thanking time **
Who should we thank for who we are
If any would wish that role
For our minds which calculate
The ability to form thought and joy
Our ability to transform from barbarism to intellect
Philistine to cultured gentle soul
To whom give credit or to whom give hate
For inability to converse
A shyness and lack of confidence
For setting us upon a course
To be completed in a hearse
For what or when we are
For the place where we grew up
For every atom which makes our being
For our many loves and hates
The many twists of fate
Sadness grief and woe and madness
The human hunger we must sate
Ill tempers and deep set angers we need placate
To whom do we present our Janus thanks
For how we see our bright broad world
Our misplaced hates and prejudices
The ill starred favourites we follow
Gods of our mind we adore
Transient fads in our snobby we abhor
Every word we use to bully and put down
From where or whom did they come
The love we give so precious
Our loyalty and honesty deep
All the kindnesses we show
To whom do we thank for this
A life without compare
A temporal lull of existence
In which we have chance to be
The very best kind of me.
