The good we may bring

** the good we may bring **
Stop all your moralising
The political philosophising
My plane leaves next week
No need for rushing
War we are fighting
They have been fighting
Since Homer was a lad
And Ajax was in shortie pyjamas
This place knows war better than peace
The native-born live and die never at ease
Gods here are angry and senselessly brutal
About warfare vicious and tribal there is nothing subtle
For all the good we may bring
We are foreigners here bringing a foreign thing
Democracy and rule of equals never survives
When the objective is getting out alive.
