World cup in Oz

World cup in Oz

 * World cup in Oz *
There are going to be celebrations
If you can call them that
Riots on the streets
Flares into the air
Car horns beeping madly
A hundred cities hysterically shrieking
About how some millionaires won a golden cup
It really doesn't seem fair
they should be acclaimed so high
Didn't cure cancer or the common cold
Have not explored Mars
Did not return the Holy Grail
Or resolve poverty of the world
Yet these young men are immortal before they have grown old
Their skills are youth and vigour
Control of flighty Jabilani ball
Values of never give up
And when touched always fall
They have been playing for four long weeks
For the football world cup
Sent from 64 countries
Who made it through their regions
Representatives of their country's strain
Proudly presented as these are our men
See how they play this game
All became insignificant to me
When the Soccerroos failed to advance
All the better to recall
The women's world cup has already been held
And Australia won that
So the men can go to hell.
