For the first time leaving the nursery
They crowd together close
As if weight of numbers would provide
Safety from uncertainty
The knowledge of directionless
Searching for a sign
With more fervour than a prophet
Cast adrift on public transport
As alien a concept to them
As tran-fictional-matter-transportation
Or little green men in flying saucers
All their previous adventures
Been through the flickering screen
On the wildlife channel
Or with the lovely Catriona
To bravely take their hands.
