Faux pas

Faux pas

 * faux pas *
The last retreat of vanity
Beyond a world of mirrors
Cravat worn jauntly
A flat wide brimmed ermine trimmed hat
A bright cheese yellow shirt
Made in Italy of purest silk
Pantaloons of midnight blue
Shoes capped with diamonds
A fashion statement beyond fashion
A moving extravaganza of style
Ignoring all the looks and stares
The whispered words as go by
Only you can dare to wear
And bring dignity to this roar
Young enough to know better
To old to have a care
A challenge to their suburban values
You are a fashion muse
Explosion to the urban sensibilities
All these things you are
In this last outpost of vanity
An old man with a tired weathered face
Dressed in garish overpriced garments
Trying to hide a paunch
And the physical infirmities of the old.
