Be bigger better brighter

Ever upward and successful
Then you encounter the bumps
Of lesser never darker
Achievements have been sidelined
Rising cost of living ate
Benefits you had been accruing
Paying for the family things
Consumes the excesses you once knew
Ate not only fat now into also muscle
You become keener and leaner
Not as profiligate as before
Still not enough as ship lists
Seems sprung a fiscal leak
Debt is pouring in
The pumps of earnings inadequate
To the task presented
All hands are going down
This ship soon will sink
All dreams of yesteryear
Mired in stinking bog of debt
Long work days grow longer
Inspiration's flame has guttered
Another could have been somebody
Defeated by simple reality.
