the Beneath

the Beneath

 ++ the Beneath ++
Beneath our feet life
A thousand graves deep
Under dwellers digging and scraping
Civilizations of worms
Realms of badger and wombat
Kingdoms of weasel mole and fox
Beyond our upper gaze exist
Living fighting dying birthing
We know none of this
Beneath our face the war
The living fighting roof and floor
To keep both above and under whole
To survive the blind day beneath
Before escape to upper land at night
Find the cooler open airs above
Sing their songs to silver stars
Honour bright crescent Moon regal
Hunt and briefly share our world
Before to burrows snug return
Nocturnal visiting hour rung
When first glimpse dawn of Sun
Scurry away to rooms beneath
And settle down to deep refreshing sleep.
