No free lunches

No free lunches

 +++ no free lunches +++
Beware of Germans bearing gifts
Portrayed as saviours of your economy
The money must always be repaid
In the structure of the German language
There is no expression for free lunches
Only debt and credit and payment schedules.

There is no honey without labour
In the Greek cities the new churches burn
Those temples bright of Mammon
Banks of polished steel and glass alight
Set to burn by a people spurned
A mediterranean catastrophe.

The moneys is all long gone
Coffers raided been left bare
And now the bailiffs have been brought in
Can only avoid being dispossessed
Forced into rank bankruptcy
By a loan which will indenture
Future generations to slavery

Public services will be slashed
The clerk and public servant be dismissed
Government sees riots on the streets
Murder under cover of dark of night
Flame and anger and terror set free
Re-enacting bitter Greek history.

Beware the gifts of banks
Honey never ever was free
You must labour in Summer Sun
Be frugal when Winter come
Enjoy not the days of debt paid rest
They foretell the days of labouring when credit gone.

Beware the gifts of Germany
They are no gifts at all
Expect the bill to be repaid
To comfort Strasses women staid
The peace they buy is for themselves
As Greece steps towards bloody civil war.
