celebrating

celebrating

++ celebrating ++

The seagulls still swoop
And dogs chase their tails
Young boys still fall in love
And girls make flower trails
The days of feasting still celebrated
Welcome the Sun after Winter
Drink and play and work
Tell me these things still are
As I lie here waiting

Remind me of the great matches
When stands erupted
At well taken shot or a challenge
Which spoke of reckless pride
Tell me they still go
To see those Gods of afternoon
The ball still moved so quick
The joy of victory
Deepest sorrow of defeat
Tell me these things still are
As I lie here waiting

Talk to me
In voice of poets
Carry honeyed bardic words to my ears
Set aside the woes of now
Celebrate the gone before
The sharing of moments golden
Moments from life stolen
Stored inside our heads forever
Of meetings by the lake
Of kisses and chasing
Easily caught and zealously guarded
My love my wife
My evening succour
My restful bed companion
Tell me these things still are
As I lie here waiting

Upon the end of my bed he sits
An ancient gent without anger
Is not rushed but patience itself
Waiting for the moments to cease
To take me and lead me
Away from here
Away from all these things
And I do not know if I will recall
All these things I did and was
All these moments seen and shared
So before I breath my last
Before his scythe raised up
Tell me these things still are
As I lie here waiting
Tell me they will always be
And my time of life
Not these grim shadows of death
At the passing of my soul
At my wake be celebrating.
