JFK memorials worldwide
These shrines to a son of Boston
Risen proudly and unexpectedly
For the first son was meant to gather
The laurels and bring them to the father
In death over Europe all plans postponed
How would the father have felt
To see his second son gain
Highest post in the land
Where if innuendo were correct
Though everyone was so occupied
During Prohibition bootlegging
And how it would have stricken father proud
To see this golden son expire
On a Texas passway
Brains splattered on his wife
Another tragic turn
To Kennedy family history
And we in hindsight can see
Would not be the last such grieving
Who could not feel for a father
A parent true with faults implied
Not lose one son for country
In their public service lose three.
