Expected and unexpected in same moment
There was not kindness there
In his gaze sorrowly resolute
Only embarrassment and pity
As if in ending this relationship
He had torn down your world
It is altered you think

Yet is no less than when he appeared
You have learnt some new things
Visited some restaurants
Got some good photos
(Once he is photo-shopped out)
Shared more than a few laughs
And yet on reflection
More entree than main course
Missing some essential ingredients
Such as full appreciating you
Else why would he be wandering off

There will be others
Different in character and outlook
Perhaps view them differently from him
Believe he was in some way better
Yet his life no longer matters
He can be referred to wistfully
On long Winter walks
As the one who was almost right
A stop along the way not the destination
